Three individuals taken into custody after drug bust

Authorities in Tennessee announced that they took three people into custody after an incident at the Fairfield Inn on November 12. On that date at about 10 a.m., police searched a room in which the three defendants were staying. The search revealed about a kilo of methamphetamine in addition to Xanax and marijuana. Authorities also said that there was about $30,000 in cash that was believed to be the result of other drug transactions.

A 24-year-old woman and a 45-year-old female were both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of meth for resale in a park zone. The older woman was also charged with possession of a firearm to commit a felony and maintaining a dwelling that was used to store or use drugs.

Individuals who are charged with drug crimes, such as being in possession of drug paraphernalia, could face serious consequences if convicted. It may be possible to spend many years in jail or prison, and a sentence may include a fine of thousands of dollars. Other penalties may include probation either after a jail or prison sentence is completed or instead of being sent to jail.

People may be able to defend themselves against criminal charges by hiring an attorney. While defendants are allowed to create their own defense, their interests may be better served by having professional counsel. In some cases, individuals may be required to retain an adviser as the legal process unfolds. A lawyer may be able to negotiate a plea deal or take steps to get a case thrown out. Those steps may include casting doubt on witness testimony or items included in a police report.
