Tennessee residents who have are accused of sex crimes have many hurdles to face and one of those hurdles at times can be the media and any public reports made about cases. Often, reports only provide a slice of the details actually involved and those details chosen can be positioned to look very unfavorably on defendants. This may give a view to the public that is not completely accurate.
Recently an effort led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation resulted in four women and 38 men being arrested and charged in conjunction with an alleged prostitution ring. Reports suggest that two of the defendants specifically sought out sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl. Others are said to have solicited sex from adult prostitutes. Many of the defendants are white-collar professionals or students including a man who was the head of the Memphis Area Transit Authority. That defendant has actually quit his job in light of his arrest.
The MATA is reported to be launching an investigation and full forensic review of the former chief executive officer’s accounts and files in order to ascertain whether or not any public monies were involved in the alleged sex scandal.
People who have been arrested and have details of their situations made public might find it useful to talk with an attorney. This may be one way of getting help from someone who knows and understands all of the details involved as well as the laws relating to the charges.
