The summer season brings an increase in car accidents

On Behalf of | Jun 3, 2020 | Blog

Summer brings many fun activities for people to enjoy. Family vacations, barbeques, and road trips can create lifelong memories for you and your loved ones. While there is an increase in fun activities in the summer, there is also an increase in the danger on the roads.

The days between Memorial Day and Labor Day see a regular increase in car accidents. As a result, these days have earned the name “the 100 deadliest days of summer”. What is it about these days that are so deadly?

Summer threats

One of the biggest dangers of this time of year is the increase of drunk drivers. Holidays of any kind always see an increase in binge drinking. Other holidays are easier to predict when an increase in DUIs will occur than in the summer because people take vacations all throughout the season. When there is a consistent increase in vacations, it stands to reason that more people are likely to drink and drive.

Summer does not see only an increase in drunk drivers, but drivers in general. More people on the road means an increase in reckless drivers. If people are speeding, eating behind the wheel, or using their phone while driving, they lose focus on the road and other drivers around them.

Stay safe this summer

An increase in risks on the road is not reason enough to not enjoy the summer holidays. It simply means that divers need to exercise more caution to ensure that they are keeping themselves and their passengers safe.
