Tennessee cops facing DUI and domestic violence charges

On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2019 | Drunk Driving

There are tens of thousands of laws about virtually every aspect of life in Chattanooga, Tennessee and the United States. With so many laws, it is not a surprise that so many find themselves facing criminal charges of one type or another.

It is a little surprising that so many law enforcement officers have recently found themselves accused of breaking the laws they’re sworn to uphold. Two more Tennessee police officers were arrested a couple of days ago on charges that include drunk driving and domestic violence.

The first Memphis police officer was arrested after he reportedly “got into a fight with a woman” inside of a restaurant. When a security guard tried to separate the couple, the nine-year-old veteran cop allegedly retrieved an axe from his car and threatened the guard.

According to a news report, the second officer was arrested less than an hour later after he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and hit a utility pole while driving under the influence.

Last month, a 23-year-old Memphis cop was accused of striking his pregnant girlfriend. Though he was arrested for alleged domestic violence, the charge was later dropped and he was returned to duty.

Also last month: two former cops were sentenced to eight and 10 years, respectively, in a heroin-smuggling operation.

No matter who you are and what you do for a living, allegations of DUI, domestic violence and drug crimes can upend your life. If you or a loved one faces these types of charges, speak to an attorney experienced in criminal defense before you speak with a prosecutor.
