Dedicated advocacy for college students facing criminal charges

It's hard to believe, but summer is slowly drawing to a close, meaning it won't be long until we start to see cooler temperatures and shorter days.

In fact, if you need more immediate proof, consider that more and more young people are now packing up their belongings, loading their cars and heading back to their respective campuses for the start of the fall semester.

While these young people will naturally be hitting the books regularly over the course of the year, they will also be looking for ways to blow off some steam.

More often than not, this will take the form of participating in extracurricular activities, indulging in binge-watching sessions of favorite televisions shows and, of course, just hanging out.

It's important to acknowledge, however, that sometimes college students don't always making the best decisions when blowing off steam and end up handcuffed in the back of a squad car. Indeed, it's not uncommon for these momentary lapses in judgment to result in the following types of charges:

  • DUI
  • Underage consumption of alcohol
  • Drug possession charges
  • Public intoxication/disorderly conduct
  • Assault
  • Reckless driving

Even though college students -- and sometimes parents -- might be tempted to dismiss these incidents as "kids being kids," the fact remains that even though they may result in no prison time, criminal convictions can still have serious repercussions. Indeed, a permanent criminal record can make it harder to secure financial aid, harder to get into graduate school, harder to find housing and harder to land a job.

At Levitt & Levitt, we understand the stakes involved when a college student is charged with a criminal offense. That's why we do everything in our power to have the charges dismissed or reduced. If this isn't an option, we know how to prepare a strong case designed to protect your child's rights and preserve their future.
